This course provides an easy approach to examining the fundamentals of the Securities Industry Essentials examination. By eliminating the non-essential information, this course is streamlined for your success.

The Security Industry Essentials (SIE) Exam

The Securities Industry Essentials® (SIE®) Exam is a FINRA exam for prospective securities industry professionals. This introductory-level exam assesses a candidate’s knowledge of basic securities industry information including concepts fundamental to working in the industry, such as types of products and their risks; the structure of the securities industry markets, regulatory agencies and their functions; and prohibited practices.

  1. The SIE examination is a 1 hour 45-minute test comprised of 75 multiple choice questions.
  2. In order to pass the examination, you must achieve a 70%.
  3. 83% pass the exam on the first attempt.

Steps to Success

There are 3 steps to ensure passing the SIE. This course will provide you with everything you need for Step 1. After that, it is up to you to put the work in to maximize your potential and pass the exam

Complete the Course

Plan on committing at least 20 hours to studying for the examination. The course is compressed in to about 20 hours of study along with practice exams. It is recommended you focus on one topic until you’re 100% comfortable.

Practice. Practice. Practice.

As with anything, the more you practice the more prepared you will be to succeed. There are several practice tests available. You can never take too many of them.

The Examination FAQ's

IMPORTANT!!!

Passing the SIE alone does not qualify an individual for registration with a FINRA member firm or to engage in securities business. In order to become registered to engage in securities business, an individual must pass the SIE and a qualification exam appropriate for the type of business the individual will engage in. The individual must be associated with a member firm to take a qualification exam.

  • The Exam is available to anyone 18 and older. You must provide a Social Security Number or your mother’s maiden name.
  • After the first and second failed attempts, there is a 30-day waiting period. After the third failed attempt, there is a 180-day waiting period. For any attempts after the third attempt, there is also a 180-day waiting period between each exam attempt
  • The cost of the exam is $80. There are military and veteran discounts available as well
  • The SIE Exam does not require a candidate to be associated with a firm in order to take the test. However, passing does not qualify you for a FINRA registration. You must pass the SIE and a specific qualifying “Top Off” exam
  • Passing the SIE is good for four years from the completion date.
